Narrative

There has always been quite a bit of diverse opinion on reading (on your free time not as just being able to read). Some people absolutely love it and cant live with out it, while others don’t see why reading is even a necessity.  I personally don’t understand how people don’t enjoy reading.

Reading used to be a real struggle for me, especially in elementary school. I almost failed English my 5th grade year. I just couldn’t grasp the idea of why we have to read or how reading can be fun at all. Then when I got pulled out of public schools I became a bored young kid that had to stay home all day mostly everyday.

So at first I would just argue with my parents about how much I hated home school, like with a real passion. Then after a while I got interested in Xbox games to pass my time. Sometimes I wouldn’t even do any school work, I would just stay home playing video games with my brother all day with no penalty to my grades or anything. Then I started getting bored of that so I tried out yet again something new to try and pass all the time. I started painting. I painted quite a bit, but mostly landscapes.

The next phase I went through to pass time was I started to read the Inkheart series. I automatically fell in love. I read all three books a total of seven times and then when I was finally done rereading that series I started to look for other books. And at first I wasn’t exactly sure what kind of books would interest me the most. So, I went to the Barnes and Noble bookstore in Silverdale and took a look around. I started looking at the covers of the books to see if there were any that caught my eye (I know don’t judge a book by its cover).

I found a couple good books and read them and after those I went back and got more books. I fell in love with reading and I fell in love with the story’s inside the beautiful multicolored spines that lined the shelves of that store. There’s nothing that quite make me happy like a bookstore does. I can understand that some people just don’t enjoy reading or just can’t do it because that’s not how their mind likes to perceive information. I love reading, its one of my favorite hobbies and I suggest it to anyone with an adventurous spirit and a vivid imagination.

In Class Lab 138-141

Decision
Life category
Details
Deciding to go into running start
Academic
I previously was going to go into running start as a junior. I talked to a teacher about it at a parent teacher conference and he did not recommend it. He said that the workload was very overwhelming and the transition is hard. So, I didn’t do it last year. I then decided that I really do want to go into the program my senior year because the classes in high school were too easy and seemingly pointless and I get to go to college for free for a year.
Deciding to continue select fast pitch
Hobby/future
For a while I was leaning towards not continuing select fast pitch because I decided I didn’t really want to play in college and I have a very busy schedule. But then after I took a small break I realized I’m not always going to have the chance to play the sport that I love and that I should just do it until I cant anymore that way I wont regret not playing. So far its been hard to attend everything between school, rock climbing trips, fast pitch, driving my brother to school, practices, and other events, and applying for jobs.  I don’t know if the decision I made was a good one but it’s the decision I did make.
Deciding to get a kitten
Home
So I really wanted a kitten for a quite sometime and I asked my mom and she said I could get one, but every time I showed her one and ask if I could call and get it she said I could another time or its not the right one. Then one day I saw the cutest little white kitten that I just had to have, but I also new what would happen if I asked her if I could get it. So I just didn’t ask. I brought the kitten home and just told her that I got it. At first she was furious but after she saw the kitten and it started meowing and playing around she started to fall in love with it too. She then let me keep the kitten and its been terrorizing the water cups and plants ever since.
Buying a new tire or putting on the spare and replacing all four tires later
Transportation
This morning my mom discovered she had a flat tire. She then decided that she would take my car and leave me with hers. In a result of that my boy friend had to take my brother to school and I had to fill up my tire and take it to the shop. The mechanic then told me that he couldn’t do much for the tire because the tread was weak and a rock went straight through the tire. So he said I could either replace all four tires or use the extra that I brought in until I can replace all four tires. I didn’t exactly have the funding or the time for replacing all four tires so I took the risk of ruining the transfer frame by just putting the old tire on.
Homecoming
Personal
I’m going to homecoming with some friends at a different school than mine this weekend. I didn’t have much notice to go shopping for a dress so I either have to and try find one last minute or just wear one that I wore previously at my school. The upside of wearing the old dress is that it will leave me more money to buy a dress for the other homecoming that I am attending at my actual school. The downside is that the picture I take at this dance wont be as unique if it is just basically the same one as I took previously. I then thought about it and decided to wear one of my old dresses because I still have the following weekend’s homecoming to wear a new dress.

Follow up: This chart shows that I have a somewhat difficult time with decisions but over all I make bold and risky decisions that could go bad or could be good, but I wont know until they play out. I am also not the best at listening to directions and tend to take a different route in my solutions then others.

I over all like the second consumer analysis website for the ford mustang better. It is visually more appealing and the way that the information is arranged and displayed makes it easier to understand. Like how it has extra pictures and explanations easily accessible so that you become more knowledgeable one what you're looking into purchasing. I would change the other one to have more photos and more descriptions of reviews and talking about how the actual car is more. The first website just talk about the looks and the affordability. The second website talks about that and what makes the car an actual good reliable car

Rhetorical Situations-Narratives

In Class Lab: Literacy Narrative

  1. “When she opened the front door, the whole street looked like a river, and water poured in. She described it as ‘Rushing like the Colorado River’.” (pg.129 Paragraph 6)
  2. “ Because of him I can quote, ‘If you can keep your head when all about you / Are losing theirs and blaming it on you’ (Kipling lines 1-2), ‘And early though the laurel grows / It withers quicker than the rose’ (Housman lines 11-12), ‘I grow old…I grow old… / I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled’ (Eliot lines 120-21)” (Pg133 Paragraph 4)
  3. “She was unable to shut the door against the brown rushing water. Horrified, she tried not to panic. Seeking higher ground, she climbed on top of her dining room table.” (Pg. 129 Paragraph 7)
  4. Possible topics
    1. When I first started reading
    2. When I started to enjoy writing
    3. What book made me fall in love with reading
    4. How books made me fall in love with writing

  1. I want to write tell this story not only to fulfill this assignment but to share the memory of why I love reading and what initially caused me to fall in love with it.
  2. My audience is fairly likely to have the same experience as me and could probably end up telling close to the same stories. I don’t think I would have to do too much explaining for my audience to understand my narrative. I don’t know if they will share the same attitude, it just depends on what they enjoy.
  3. The attitude I want to project is sincere and affectionate towards reading. I want readers to understand that I thoroughly love and enjoy reading.
  4. My narrative will be in print, possibly with pictures that could help readers understand visually what I’m trying portray.
  5. When I think of my narrative I just think of sitting on the couch with a blanket and my book with a slightly dimmed light next to a window occasionally glancing at the dark starry sky outside.
  6. When I picture my story I don’t hear anything other than my mind bringing the words on the pages to life in my mind.
  7. I smell fresh air from my window that’s opened up next to me.
  8. I feel curious and excited to find out what will happen next in my books.
  9. I don’t taste anything.
  10. The only person that’s really in this narrative is me and im usually squinting from being so into what im reading, I can see perfectly well.
  11. “Mom do you think we could stop by Barnes and Noble on the way home?”, I said as I exit the Bremerton YMCA.
“Why? Didn’t you just buy a book a few days ago?”, She replied sarcastically.
“I already finished it.”, I say with a proud grin

Taking Stock of Your Writing

1. The main point of my paper was to inform the reader about how, even if you don't enjoy reading now doesn't mean that you will never enjoy it.

2. The audience is my Professor and my peers and I had to tailor my explanation of my story to be able to be seen from all sides. I had to make sure that it suited people who like reading and do not like reading and be understandable to both.

3. I was told that I should try explaining things in a more understandable way with less words so there is less room for confusion, but I should still explain things with detail. This help me because I tend to go on and on about things that aren't as important as others.

4. I found it interesting that no matter how many times I read my paper over, when people proofread it, they still found mistakes. Which I think is pretty cool and it shows that you can't always do things on your own.

5. I don't really have any questions about the paper. I feel like the strongest part of it is its main idea and the weakest part of it is some of my explaining.

Collaborative writing on writing

Writing is essentially talking through paper with a pen or keyboard. You can use it to communicate and document important ideas. Types of writing include stories, essays, poems, and personal narratives. You can also communicate through songs and ballads. Your formality will shift depending on your audience, for example, you may use more formal language when writing for a professor or an authoritative figure. However, you may use slang when writing to a person familiar to you.
